Walking with the Wise #217: When Evil Is Good

“Folly is a joy to him who lacks sense,
but a man of understanding walks straight ahead.”

—Proverbs 15:21

Stupidity. Our world is filled with it. There are those who have embraced the world so much that, to them, evil is good and good is evil. In fact, sin becomes funny to those who have no basis of truth, and Christians are considered fools, jokes, one-liners comically out of step with greater society. If the world considers us to be fools then let it be! Let us be fools for Christ! Because it is by the foolishness of Christ that God brought salvation to man, and it is by this same foolishness that the world will be condemned, as the Bible says:
“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord’”—1 Corinthians 1:26-31.
Our boast is in Christ! He is the one who set the world on its foundations, and the one through whom God brought salvation to us! Let us leave all foolishness behind, abandoning our sinful pursuits, taking up the cross of Christ, which is worth far more than any wealth this world could ever offer! As the world tries to tear us down, let us run to Him who is over all because He will reveal all of the evil of this world for what it is—rebellion toward God. He will judge those who have rebelled, sending them to hell—but to those who follow Him, who seek to know and live for Jesus, He will bless in ways unimaginable. Amen.
