Walking with the Wise #232: Commit It To Christ
“Commit your work to the LORD,
and your plans will be established.”
—Proverbs 16:3
and your plans will be established.”
—Proverbs 16:3
The key to success is loving God, loving people, and serving the world. If we are to love God, then we must follow Him and then commit everything in our life to Him. Following Christ means giving Him veto power over everything in our life. We understand that He has the ability to determine what it is we pursue. Giving it over to Him is a scary thing, because we relinquish control, enabling God to take us anywhere and do anything to us or through us that is beneficial to Him.
Committing our work to Him involves giving Him veto power, but it also is much more. When we commit our work to Him, we are inviting Him to arrange and direct it in such a way so that He will get glory through it. This may mean many things—He might bless it through growth, or He could wean us away from it so that we might have a greater focus on Him. If we commit our work to Him, then He will establish our plans, but only to the point where He is seen and glorified through it. God delights in bringing glory to His name, because it is through that glory that others see who He is, respond in adoration, and come to share in the joy that God has in Himself. The difficulty most of us have is trusting God enough to let Him direct it knowing that He could full well end it or grow it.
Have you committed your work to the Lord? What is keeping you from laying it at His feet? Are you afraid He might take it away? Or that He might do something that makes it harder or different from what you imagined it? Trust in the Lord, allow Him to do what He does best, and that is the impossible—for His glory and your joy. Amen.
