Hungry for God: Unmistakable

“And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?’”—Mark 4:41

If Jesus is in your life, His presence is unmistakable. You will notice desires for things that you never desired before—to read the Word of God, to hear it preached, to commune with your heavenly Father. But Jesus’ presence in your life will be unmistakable to others as well. Others will see the change in you, and whether or not they are willing to admit it, they will wonder at what has happened in your life. Some will write it off, others will ignore it, but there will still be others who will be drawn to the Savior through you. As the Bible says,
“For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.”—1 Corinthians 2:15-16.
When others come into contact with us they will smell us—to some we will smell horrible, but to others we will give forth the fragrance of life and they too will say something similar to what the disciples said when Jesus calmed the storm: “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” They will recognize a change in you, and will note something similar to what was said after the Jewish rulers encountered the boldness of Peter and John:
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.”—Acts 4:13.
They will recognize that you have been with Jesus and they will wonder who calmed the storm in your life. Man may try to explain away the truth of who Jesus is. He may say that Jesus was a legend, or a myth, and that there are many different pathways to God, but man will not be able to argue against a changed life. Your life is a testimony to the truth of who Jesus is, as you not only carry around the death of the Lord Jesus in you, but His life as well (cf. 2 Corinthians 4:10).

Take heart, loved one! Don’t give up! God is working in us and through you to bring about His kingdom! He is doing it for His glory, and by your participation in it, you are sharing in His joy. Amen.
