Hungry for God: Lead Me to Rest

“Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while”
—Mark 6:31.

There are times when we need rest. Our humanity dogs us, as we cave to the tumultuous and mundane acts of everyday life. Stresses and situations get us down, and we are in need to go away with Jesus to get some rest. Knowing our need, He leads us to a place of rest, relaxation and refreshment so that we can be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10).

When our heart is discouraged we need to get away with Him, as the Psalmist prayed,

“Hear my cry, O God,

listen to my prayer;

from the end of the earth I call to You

when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock

that is higher than I,
for You have been my refuge,

a strong tower against the enemy.”
—Psalm 61:3.

Who is the “rock that is higher than I”? The rock is Christ (cf. 1 Corinthians 10:4). Jesus taught that whoever drinks the water He gives will never thirst (cf. John 4:14). He invites us to drink from Him (cf. John 7:37), to enter into His salvation which will result in unbelievable blessing. As He said, “Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water”—John 7:38.

When we are faint, we run to Him. When we are thirsty, we run to Him. When we are in danger, we run to Him. When we are ready to give up and collapse along the way of life, we run to Him for rest and refreshment.

Are you weary? Have you run to Him? Have you taken time to get along with Him and let Him minister to your soul? Run to Him, beloved, and let Him lead you to rest in Himself. Amen.
