Hungry for God: Healed to Help

“And He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.”—Mark 1:31

Jesus’ call is never static. It’s always active, with meaning and a purpose. He calls us to Himself because He wants to use us for His glory. As the Bible says,
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”—Ephesians 2:10.
The Greek word for workmanship is poema, from which we get our word poem. We are God’s poem, with the words of His grace written on our hearts to be read by everyone who sees us. God wrote His works on us so that we might work for Him, displaying that poem proudly for all to see.

Peter’s mother-in-law was the woman healed in our passage for today. And as soon as she was healed, she began to serve the disciples. When God transforms us, when He forgives our sin, and heals our soul’s hurts, He wants to use us to help others. The words of His grace need to be on display for all to see, so that they might want and long for what we have—forgiveness of sins, cleansed consciences, peace, and abundant joy.

Can God’s poem be read on you? What can people say about God through your life? If it’s more about you, than about God, then you need to make a change. Ask God to continue sanctify you so that others might see Him more and more each passing day. Amen.
