Hungry for God: Leave the Results to God

“And He said to them, ‘How many loaves do you have? Go and see.’ And when they had found out, they said, ‘Five, and two fish’”—Mark 6:38

Whenever God calls us to a task, He calls us to trust in Him for provision. He expects us to give what we have, but we give what we have to Him and let Him bless it. After retreating with the disciples from their latest ministry adventure, He was confronted by the ever-increasing crowds desirous to hear Him teach and preach the things of God.

After hearing Him teach all day, the sun was starting to set and there was nothing to eat. Knowing their predicament, the disciples asked Jesus to send the crowds away so that they could get something to eat before it was dark. Jesus, seizing an opportunity to teach His disciples an important lesson said, “You give them something to eat.” Such instruction was ludicrous, but Jesus was stern in His command and it is evident that He wants them to do what He says and trust in Him for the outcome.

Their response was one of incredulity, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?” Two hundred denarii represented 200 days’ wages for a common laborer an impossible sum for them to have on them, not to mention it would take a great deal of time to go into the surrounding villages and acquire the necessary food to satisfy this crowd which consisted of 5,000 men, not counting their families, which would take the figure to something more akin to 20,000 to 25,000 people!

Jesus was undeterred by their response and said, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” Whenever God calls us to do a task, He calls us to give what we have first, no matter how preposterous or absurd. He wants us to walk by faith, not by sight, trusting in Him for the outcome.

Their reply was one of tacit reluctance, “Five, and two fish.” Giving to God the little we have to accomplish such a task my seem untenable, but with God little is much and small acts of faith in the hands of God result in large miracles,
“And taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven and said a blessing and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the people. And He divided the two fish among them all. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men”—Mark 6:41-44.
What tasks are you facing that seem hopeless? What does God want you to give Him and trust in Him for the results? Give to God and trust in Him for the results, no matter how impractical, unfeasible, and difficult! He is the God of the impossible, and what may be impossible with man is completely possible with God (cf. Mark 10:27)! He will do the miraculous when we give to Him and trust in Him for the results! Amen.
