Walking with the Wise #82: Found Out

“The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight,

but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.”

—Proverbs 11:5

Time and time again throughout the proverbs, Solomon reminds us what the reward will be for a righteous life—no worries. The righteous don’t have to worry about being caught in a lie, or being captured by the consequence of a sinful choice as much as those who pursue wickedness. Think about it. What about those who engage in sexual immorality? They have to worry about STDs, unplanned pregnancy, jealousy, insecurity, and a host of other issues. But for those who pursue sexual satisfaction within the covenant of marriage, there is safety and security. This principle can be found in any arena: business, finance, work, school, etc.

God’s Word is clear: if we sin, we will suffer for it, and eventually, our sin will find us out (cf. Numbers 32:23). The only answer is to turn from our sin in confession and repentance, accept God’s forgiveness, and live life by taking up our cross daily—making sure that we crucify the flesh and then live in the new life Christ has promised, as Paul wrote to the Galatians:
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me”—Galatians 2:20.
Are you worried about your past? Are you doing something right now of which you will be ashamed later? Be assured, it will be found out! Repent! Confess your sins and do that which God desires! And then be prepared to accept the forgiveness that is only found in Him! He will help establish, strengthen, and empower you to live a life that is pleasing in His sight. Amen.
