Walking with the Wise #70: A Faithful Foundation
“When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more,
but the righteous is established forever.”
—Proverbs 10:25
but the righteous is established forever.”
—Proverbs 10:25
There are always storms in life. Everyone is either in a storm, headed into one, or coming out of one. But how does one survive the storms of life? Solomon understood that only those who have a solid foundation for life can pass through the storms that are bound to come. Not so with the wicked. The wicked are washed away, like those in a tsunami who are captured by the power of the water and dragged into the sea.
Jesus expanded on this proverb when He said,
"Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it"—Matthew 7:24-27.The foolish and the wicked end up in the same place—washed away. Only those who build their lives upon the truth of Jesus Christ will discover the strength and enduring nature of who He is and what He said.
As Christians who still live in this world, we know how quickly our thoughts and attitudes can change as we face different crises. Our goal is to make sure the foundation of our life is built upon God and His Word. We may encounter a variety of philosophies and opinions, but all of them must be weighed according to the truth of God’s Word.
How are you building your life? Are you trying to build your life on something other than God’s Word? If so, know that it will not endure. Only that which God has purposed will endure, and that is the truth of who He is. Submit yourself to Him, read and apply His Word daily, and you will soon discover that you have a foundation that cannot be moved. Amen.
