Walking with the Wise #278: Knowing How To Use It
“Why should a fool have money in his hand to buy wisdom
when he has no sense?”
—Proverbs 17:16
when he has no sense?”
—Proverbs 17:16
Money can buy a lot of things, but wisdom is not one of them. Fools can make money and can try and acquire wisdom by paying for it, but it's foolish, because he doesn’t have the sense to know how to use it.
There are a lot of fools in our world—celebrities, athletes, politicians, etc. Our pursuit should not be after their lifestyle or to have what they have. Instead our desire should be to find and acquire wisdom. Money is important in life, but wisdom has infinitely greater value for us. Never has a man been on his deathbed wishing that he had acquired more money—but that he had invested the time he had with those whom he loved.
What is your pursuit in life? Seek money and you may find it—but it will not give you the satisfaction it promises. It is a tool to be managed—nothing more. Make an idol out of it, and it will steal your joy.
Seek wisdom and you will find that it leads to the peace that can be found in and through Jesus Christ. He is the one who is the personification of the wisdom of God, given unto us so that we might understand who God is and what His desire for us is. He is the peace we so desperately seek after, and by surrendering to Him and following His Word, we will find the wisdom to live and have peace with God. Amen.
