Walking with the Wise #264: The Way We Work
“A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully
and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers.”
—Proverbs 17:2
—Proverbs 17:2
How we work greatly determines how we live. It’s not about the station we are born in, but with the wisdom in how we live and work. A wise servant is deemed to be of more value than a stupid and shameful son, receiving a portion of the inheritance after the master’s death.
As Christians, we must make sure that we are examples of Christ, ordering, constructing, and directing our lives in such a way that Jesus can be seen in and through us—this is a life of wisdom as we carefully consider how our actions will affect others. Applying ourselves to industry enables the name of Christ to receive glory and endears us to our employers—whoever they may be. As Paul wrote,
“Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ”—Colossians 3:22-24.How are you going about your job? Are you just working for men and a paycheck? Understand that you are working for a heavenly Master and far and away more than a mere paycheck. You are working for the Lord Christ! So do your work unto the Lord, not man, and then let God exalt you! Amen.
