Such A Time As This
“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"—Esther 4:14b
God is GOD. He is the author of our salvation and arranger of the events of our lives. He is the one behind the scenes and orchestrating circumstances to bring about His glory. In our passage for today, we have Queen Esther, orphaned at a young age and entrusted into the loving care of her uncle and guardian, Mordecai. She is a Jew living in exile, her identity hidden at the request of her uncle, who ends up becoming queen of Persia at a time of political upheaval, her people in danger of eradication. She courageously reveals her identity to her husband the king when her people were at the threshold of annihilation. Her intercession results in her people’s salvation and her enemy’s execution.
The story of Esther offers a glimpse into the divine plan of God. While her story was still being written, we get an insight into the ways of God through Mordecai’s instruction to Esther, “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"—Esther 4:14b. He understood that the circumstances of Esther’s life led to this moment. Her parents dying, living in exile from her homeland, her beauty, the king’s deposal of Queen Vashti, all came together for one purpose, the deliverance of God’s people. God had ordered and orchestrated the circumstances of her life for something greater than what she imagined. God’s direct presence may have been hidden, but His hand behind the scenes was not.
Dear one, you might be in a place right now where God’s hand appears hidden, but I assure you, He is not. He is working and purposing something greater in and through you than you could imagine. The situation may appear bleak, but God is there, working out His purpose and His ways for His glory. May our faith be renewed in His divine purpose and plan for our lives, that it may result in praise and the salvation of many souls. Amen.
