Trust

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”—Psalm 20:7

This psalm begins with, “May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!” (v.1). Where do you turn when tragedy strikes? When trouble arrives at your doorstep, what do you do? What is the hope and focus of your life? Do you trust in the chariots of this world, i.e. your own power, accomplishments, and strength, or place your hope in the protection and acceptance this world has to offer? If you do, know this, any trust that is not in the Lord our God will certainly fail. As believers in Christ we must make sure that our trust is continually “in the name of the LORD our God.” Tragedies are like earthquakes, they shake the foundation of our lives and only what is built to handle it will endure. For the Christian, only Christ has “overcome the world” (John 16:33) and we, by faith in Him, will also be overcomers (1 John 5:4). No matter what calamity or tragedy may strike, we continually, “trust in the name of the LORD our God.” And when we wholeheartedly trust in Him, He will show Himself to be victorious in our lives. He will show Himself to be our great provider, an ever-present help in our time of need. We only need trust in Him and Him alone. Amen.
