The Lighthouse Photo

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving."
—Colossians 4:2

There is a fascinating photo that captures the true essence of a lighthouse. The photo is taken from the sky of the base of a lighthouse as a giant wave crashes into it. There is a man in the back bottom portion cringing as the waves crash all around him, enveloping the entire front and sides of the lighthouse, just missing him. The waves appear to be about fifteen to twenty feet high, making the picture appear all the more amazing. The lighthouse is caught in a massive storm nevertheless it does not give way. It carries on warning others on the sea that the shore is quickly approaching, warning some, giving hope to others.

Our passage today provides a similar picture. We are to be steadfast in prayer, giving hope to others by continually laying them before the throne of grace asking God to uphold them from crashing into the rocks of life. By our prayers, God is at work, giving hope to some and conviction to others. We are to stand against the forces of Satan, remaining anchored to the rock of Christ, unflinching as the storms of life assail us. May God give us the strength to remain steadfast. Amen.
