The Need to be Led
“Make me to know Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day long.”—Psalm 25:4-5
When I was younger, I had some friends that owned a farm and every year they grew millions of pumpkins. From Labor Day weekend until October the 31st, they opened up the farm to the public. They had pumpkins, flowers, and baked goods for sale, different displays, and a host of other things. But one of the most fun things was their hay bale maze. They made a huge maze out of hay bales and people would come from miles around to go through the maze, some getting lost in it and needing to shout in order for someone to come get them and bring them out.
I went through the maze like everyone else, but unlike everyone else I knew the owner and creator of it. I tried it once by myself, but made a series of unsuccessful attempts to navigate my way to freedom. It was not until my friend, the maze creator, climbed up on top and gave me instructions in order that I might escape my dilemma and find my way to freedom. He could see the whole maze from the top and knew which paths led some astray and which path led to freedom.
There are many ways that people choose to live life. There are many paths to choose from, but only one path leads to eternal life. Not until we go to our Creator and ask Him about His truth will we see the true path. The Psalmist asked God to lead him in His truth. Anything else that pretends to be true and is not according to God and His Word is not truth, but a lie, a dead end.
What path are you on, loved one? Are you embarking on a journey of your own truth that is sure to lead to a dead end? Or are you looking our Creator God who has determined that there is only one way to eternal life and that is through His Son? His way is the right and best way for it leads to freedom, safety, and joy. Do not to continue to pursue your own way, ask for help by calling out to Him who is Way and the Truth (John 8:32; 14:6), the Lord Jesus, and He will guide your way. Amen.
