So Tired
“…but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
—Isaiah 40:31
We all know what its like to feel exhausted, to feel like we can’t go on. We know what it’s like to feel tired spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. There are days when we don’t want to get out of bed, days when we don’t want to go on, days when we want to give up. We’ve all been there. But God says something to us in the midst of our exhaustion, “…but those who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength.”
Waiting on God. How can waiting on God renew our strength? How can looking to Him give us hope and strength for the journey? It is only through looking to the Lord that we can have our strength renewed. By waiting on God, we discover that He is our sustainer and energizer. Like solar panels turned to the sun’s direction in order to receive power, so we turn our gaze to the Lord, ready to receive His power for living. But the clouds of life creep in and keep the rays of life away from us. What are we to do? Look for another source? No. Are we to attempt to create our own power? No. What about waiting for the Lord? We keep our focus on the Lord as we wait for the storms clouds of life to shift so His rays of righteousness might shine down upon us again. If we can keep our focus on Him, the power will come, but we must keep our eyes on Him.
If we keep our eyes on Him, He will show Himself to us. He will renew our strength, enabling us to fly like eagles soaring high above our circumstances, high above our emotional state, high above our physical and mental exhaustion. He will give us supernatural power and strength. We will run and not grow weary, walk and not faint. We will have strength for the journey, the ability to carry on in the tasks and purposes for which He has saved us. In other words, we will soar.
How about you? Are you soaring or are you spiraling? Are you focused or are you faithless? May the Lord our God enable us all to stay focused and waiting on Him to renew our strength and soar in the strength He supplies. Amen.
