Satan’s Strategy for Your Life #28: Found A Window

“Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ‘What you are going to do, do quickly.’”—John 13:27

I went to visit my family across several states a couple of years ago. We were set to arrive late and my Mom was supposed to leave the door unlocked. But, upon arriving I quickly discovered that she had forgot to unlock the door. It was late and all of my attempts at door knocking, doorbell ringing, window knocking, and phone calls proved ineffective. I was tired, as was my family, and since we were staying the night there anyway, I remembered going to the window of my old room to see if I could get in. I found a lawn chair, stood on top of it, and gently lifted the window and crawled right in the house, as my parents were sleeping. I went to the door and then let my family in and we bedded down for the night.

A few years later, I had locked the door of my house and took a couple of steps from the door when I realized that I had locked my keys in my house. I couldn’t drive anywhere and I couldn’t get into my house. I tried every window and door of our house, but I couldn’t get in, it was locked up tight as a drum.

Satan is a little bit like I was when trying to get into my parents' house. If he can’t get in through conventional means he looks for a window into our lives, which is exactly what he did with Judas. Judas was one of the twelve and the treasurer for Jesus’ ministry. And as treasurer we learn that he “was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it”—John 12:6. He had nourished a secret sin in his life that allowed Satan to have access. We can see a similar concept mentioned by Paul in Ephesians 4:26-27, “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.”

By holding onto anger, we give Satan a window into our lives. The same is true with other sins. Whenever we continually nourish sin, we are giving Satan an open window into our homes. And he is always looking for that window. And since he is called a “thief” that wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), we know that he wants to destroy us. We must have our spiritual lives like my physical house, locked up, and be vigilant to make sure no thieves can get in.

Judas left a window open, Satan got in, and attempted to kill God’s Christ. Little did he know that it was the “will of the LORD to crush Him”—Isaiah 53:10. Satan thought that he had gained a victory, but he really had secured his defeat.

We must be on guard against Satan’s schemes and make sure to close the spiritual windows where Satan could have access—our spiritual lives depend on it. Amen.
